"Well, most plants do have genders, which sounds weird, but it's true, some bloom some pollinate, it's a whole thing. It's why bees and other insects are so important, because they'll carry the pollen from the pollinators to the blossoms and that's how we get more plants."

She shook her head even as she continued re-potting the rest of the seedlings in the tray, "Problem is, he's mostly lichen, and lichens and mosses don't usually have genders the same way other plants do? So, I'm mostly guessing, and he hasn't ever called me on it or corrected me, so I guess I was right the first time? But maybe it's like people who think all dogs are boys and all cats are girls."

A crooked smile came next, "So short answer, I don't know, I just guessed and stuck with it."
