"It's the Spider-sense," Peter says, making fun of his arachnid-like abilities all on his own. He's always had a fascination with spiders and as his abilities grew and changed, he named himself Spider-Man at age fourteen. And then summarily got teased for it, but kept it anyway. He was happy to be The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man. It was a far better nickname than Number Nine or The Arachnid.
